The following are excerpts from Andrew Haupt's spoken word cassette, "Flickin' From Chicken Bone."
"Maybe it's that raw sexuality. Maybe it's those incessant pop culture references that keep springing from his mouth. Maybe its his deep philosophical background. Maybe its his sickly singing voice. Maybe it's that bit of dirt on his lip. Maybe its his driving force and vision. Maybe its his incredible wit and sarcasm. Maybe it's that I was actually embarrassed when he sang the Violent Femmes. Maybe its his complete lack of a real personality. Maybe its his Buddha on the mountaintop, I die alone and leave a good looking corpse, I haven't washed my hair, clothes in days, cry for me my has cancer, I'm fighting the Man, I am a complete bastard and that's the kind of guy girls go for-ness."
"Alas, poor Ethan Hawke, I saw that piece of shit, cashing in on "Generation X," Oh, did we mention AIDS yet?, hand-held video, cross-cut smoking, starting a lot of scenes off out-of-focus, actually glad Wynona Ryder was upset, pretentious documentary making, soundtrack selling, values warping, Ben Stiller dissing, flat jokes falling, brown suit wearing, arcane universe glimpsing, non-eyebrow trimming, chip on shoulder, doe-eye making, tv watching, record contract getting, lousy answering machine message leaving, Evan Dando cameoing, movie, Reality Bites. That was to movies what Smashing Pumpkins is to music. And please know that that is not a compliment."
